UTHealth is seeking an entry-level Training Specialist to join our Surgical Skills Center and support standardized patient (SP) teaching and assessment activities for healthcare professionals. This role provides administrative and technical expertise in organizing, developing, and implementing SP programs, including creating and editing training manuals, developing instructional materials, and conducting training sessions. The Training Specialist will monitor and document SP performances, provide feedback regularly, and collaborate with faculty and physicians to ensure program goals are met. Responsibilities also include organizing and instructing non-technical classes on vocational, professional, or scientific topics, with a primary focus on guiding SPs in basic clinical skills such as blood pressure readings, anatomy, and other foundational techniques. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong teaching skills, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and communicate effectively with both faculty and staff. Prior experience as a standardized patient is a plus.
This is a part-time role that will work in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in our Surgical Skills Center. It is classified as salaried but non-exempt. You will be eligible for all UTHealth benefits, including coverage under our healthcare plan as well as participation in a pension plan run by the State of Texas (TRS).
Excellent communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or experience in lieu of education.
One year of experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
