Job Description

Learns to perform routine duties associated with cage washing, sanitation, and preparation for use in a research setting including, cage prep, assembly, monitoring equipment for proper function, maintaining sanitary conditions and minor cage maintenance. Operates cage washers and ensures that equipment is in proper working order. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific cautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Required to work weekend and holiday and emergency work schedule. This position is considered essential personnel. May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. If required to work during a closure, employee must provide accurate and current contact information and is responsible for maintaining communication with supervisor. Failure to report to work when requested by supervisor will result in disciplinary action as outlined by the Staff Handbook. Failure to meet established performance standards in the performance of the job duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description (or as otherwise assigned); and/or failure to interact courteously and tactfully with managers, co-workers, customers and/or vendors such that productivity or departmental morale suffers will result in managements taking the appropriate disciplinary action as outlined in the Staff Handbook. Employee attendance must meet established work schedules. Faithfulness in coming to work, being on time, planning absences in advance when possible, and calling in when unavoidably detained from reporting for work is an essential requirement of the job.

Ability to use industrial equipment such as pallet jacks, floor scrubbing machines and cage and rack washers autoclaves. SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES: Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the Universitys Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis. REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES: Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
